1. For a student to be considered officially enrolled in
the Course of Study the Secretary of the Ministerial
Studies Board must receive:
A) A “Registration of My Call to Ministry” form filled out
by the student using their legal name and following all the directions on the
form. (Form F-2 from the “Handbook for
Christian
Ministries
”*)
B) A letter from the student’s senior pastor acknowledging
their call to the ministry. (See Appendix H from the “Sourcebook on Ordination”*)
(*
Both of these books are found on the Clergy Development website:
www.nazarenepastor.org)
2. All students must be enrolled in an ordination
curriculum validated by Regional COSAC. Those students who do not designate a
particular curriculum will be enrolled in Reynolds.
3. Credit toward the completion of the Course of Study is
accepted from Reynolds Institute and the NBC Alliance Program. Graduates with
degrees in a curriculum validated by a Regional COSAC are considered to have
completed all course work for ordination except curriculum based on the modular
program. These will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
4. All completed course work approved by another
district will be accepted. Upon transfer, students will be required
to fulfill the standards of the New England Ministerial Studies Board for graduation from
the course of study.
5. Official transcripts of all course work need to be
submitted by January 31 and/or July 31 of each year. This allows time for
updating records or the evaluation of transfer work before the official
meetings of the Ministerial Studies Board.
6. Regarding the required yearly 2 course minimum: Courses
count towards the Assembly Year they were finished in, starting with the “Spring” semester and ending with the “Winter” semester.
Example: Courses taken in Spring ’08 through Winter ’08-09 are counted for the
Assembly ’09 report. Courses taken in Spring ’09
through Winter ’09-10 will be counted for the Assembly ’10 report.
Exception: Any student who
will complete their course of study in the following Spring semester, and therefore still before assembly, can be accepted as an ordination
candidate. However, the student must pass those last class/es in order to be
graduated from the course of study, a requirement for ordination.
7. The chairperson and secretary, under the advisement
of the designated transcript reader will make decisions on
what courses will be accepted for credit. If a student does not agree with the decision, they
may petition, in writing, to the whole board.
8. When evaluating transcripts only those courses with
grades higher than a D will be accepted as of May 1, 2007 .
9. The Board reserves the right to evaluate the
validity of any work submitted and has final authority on what will be accepted
for credit in the course of study.
A) Ministerial
studies credit will not be given for CLT courses, CEU credits, audited courses,
and work done at non-accredited institutions.
B) Courses in
Theology and Holiness must be taken in a Wesleyan tradition school or course of
study.
C) Courses in
History and Polity must be taken in an approved Nazarene course of study or school.
10. The Ministerial Studies Board records will be considered the official records but students are encouraged to keep records of their grades, course work and praxis reports.
11. We will accept only four (4) courses for Modular Plus courses from NBC* and NNU Modular Plus type courses. (The two (2) course maximum for Directed Studies courses is included in this number.)
